I do not support the transfer of any lands from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to the Town of Wasaga Beach.
However, if the land transfer goes ahead, I ask the Province of Ontario to include conditions or commitments that help support Piping Plover conservation and habitat protection.
These conditions and commitments include:
- restrict the mechanical raking of the beach areas so that Piping Plover habitat is not destroyed
- prohibit dune alternation
- protect Piping Plover nests with fenced buffer zones and natural predator mitigations
- comment funds to protect, conserve, and steward Piping Plovers, their nests, and their habitats
- engage experts at all development and implementation phases. For example staff from Birds Canada could be utilized as experts.
