As a property owner in Tiny Township I am concerned about the proposal to transfer half of the provincial beachfront to the town of Wasaga Beach. This would negatively impact critical Piping Plover habitat, and the transfer will end official monitoring surveys by the park. Wasaga Beach is a critical stronghold for the Ontario population of Piping Plovers and has produced half of all fledglings born in Ontario. If this transfer occurs the 1.5 km of ideal nesting habitat extending from Spruce Street to the Nottawasaga River will be turned over to the town for development opportunities. Historical precedents such as the extirpation of Piping Plovers from Sauble Beach due to municipal development does not bode well for the plight of the Piping Plovers in Wasaga Beach given the town's lack of involvement in the Piping Plover program. In order to preserve this critical Piping Plover habitat Ontario Parks should retain jurisdiction over this habitat from Spruce Street to the Nottawasaga River.
