Removing any land from Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves is a step backwards for the province and a blatant scheme for more development on pristine land. Wasaga Beach is home to one of the last few nesting spots of Piping plovers, an endangered species of shorebird in Ontario. Prior to this, the Endangered Species Act would have protected land used by these birds, however the provincial government has already removed the Endangered Species Act earlier this year, which means the only formal protections these endangered birds have from becoming extinct in our province is that Wasaga Beach is managed by Provincial Parks. It is critical that EVERY part of Wasaga Beach, and any land for that matter, remains with the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves so that the land can be properly managed and preserved as the wild space that it currently is - not developed for "tourism", which is just another way of saying the town intends to develop and destroy the beach. Please do not allow this to happen.
