I am completely against this proposal to sell off parts of the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park or any other Provincial park or publicly enjoyed space. Changes to this important legislation will only set the stage for future governments to sell off assets to private interests. When will this Ford government stop? We have seen the same behavior over the "forever" protected green belt. These properties were protected years ago with a purpose, so I am not sure what makes this government so persistent in selling protected areas. They were protected for a reason!
As time and time again has proven, when public assets are sold or divested to private interests, the costs increase and the access gets restricted. Wasaga Beach is packed already during peak times.
It is the government's responsibility to continue to protect and manage these valuable assets. Please do what you are elected to do. Protect and manage our resources and services. Every time a valuable asset gets sold to private developers, the government absolves its fundamental responsibility in hopes that private industry will take pity on us and provide access to the public. We need to depend on our government, not private profiteers. We should not have to depend on private companies to provide fair prices as they are all in the business of making a profit which equals higher costs to us all. This includes roads like the 407 (which now costs the few that can afford it a lot of money for short trips), private health care (including the use of agency nurses which cost double while the owners of the companies make money hand over fist).
This needs to stop. We can't be left again in another position where we must hope that private developers are in the business of providing public access to what was a government asset or service. This is the governments job.
