Allow public consultation at the discretion of the municipality? Wow. Just wow. It appears that elected officials need to be reminded that they work for the electorate (all of us) and not the groups that pay to influence.

Our area has a subdivision that was built on a wetland, resulting in destruction of wildlife habitat and loss of other environmental benefits that wetlands provide such as needed flood protection, purifying polluted water, replenishing aquifers etc. I'm sure my tax dollars will end up paying for the damage that will ultimately result from this bad decision but, of course, individuals and/or businesses benefitted financially from this deal which is what it's all about, right? Pay for play and shot-term gain rather than long-term, evidence-based decision-making that considers environmental impact and the health and welfare of communities. I am disgusted. I see zero leadership or forward thinking in these policies. It's all about filling pockets at the expense of future generations.
