Important to know that most bike trips are less than 8 km so invest in high density areas where many short trips can be made by bike.
It is one thing to build bike racks at stations, of which I am a big fan, but even more important is that the municipality build save bike routes to stations, especially at the end of a route where the catchment area is biggest.
Design routes with as little as traffic signs and traffic lights so that cyclists can keep momentum
Design for all ages: retirees can be an important group with lots of spare time (cycling is 'cheap entertainment')
Careful with investing in large stretches of asphalt along 90 km/hr routes, they won't be popular. Everything over 50 km/h speeds for car should have physically separated lanes away from direct traffic. Maximum vehicle speed should set the type of bike infrastructure: the faster, the more separated.
There should be a mix of parking options at all stations, perhaps with paid lockers for those with expensive bikes
What evidence can demonstrate the impact of cycling infrastructure investments on the number of cyclists and on GHG emissions? Do we ask for justification of motorways and parking too?
