This bill is detrimental to the wellbeing of pedestrians and cyclists. I was even doored by an Uber while cycling on a cycle path. If the presence of a cycle path is not enough to alert drivers of their responsibility, the removal will only increase accidents and fatalities. I witness a potential accident involving a vehicle daily. Alternatives for everyone must be accessible. The argument that Toronto bike lanes are seasonal are no longer applicable with the consistent warming of the seasons. Ontarians are cycling more and longer and they deserve protection and a plan forward, not backward. We need healthier alternatives for all, not the few. Drivers take for granted the dominated space they inhabit which increases their carelessness and hostility towards others and each other.
This administration has shown an incompetence in financial responsibility. Let’s not extend that to practicality.
