As someone who bikes regularly, I’m really disappointed to see the province stripping cities of the power to make their own transportation decisions. Local leaders and residents know their streets best — not Queen’s Park.
Bike lanes aren’t just for cyclists; they make roads safer for everyone — people walking, driving, and biking. The government’s own experts have said it over and over: bike lanes don’t cause gridlock. Taking them away will only make traffic worse and our roads more dangerous.
Protected bike lanes save lives. They also help reduce pollution, encourage active living, and make our communities more vibrant. Rolling them back goes against everything we know about safety, public health, and climate goals.
This isn’t about being “pro-bike” or “anti-car.” It’s about smart, evidence-based planning and giving cities the freedom to make choices that work for their residents. Repeating “bike lanes cause traffic” doesn’t make it true — the facts simply don’t back that up.
I want safer, more connected streets for everyone — whether they’re driving, walking, or riding a bike.
