I have been an avid driver, and now I am an avid cyclist in the city. Making it harder to add bike lanes in Ontario helps no one. We should not build infrastructure around cars - we can build a better future instead. If you really want to prevent grid lock, make public transportation and cycling better. If each cyclist was in a car instead of biking dangerously, we have more cars. I don't understand why the government is ignoring facts. Government experts have agreed that adding bike lanes don't add gridlock!
When I started biking in Toronto, I was deeply afraid, because this is still a car centric city. First there was talk about removing bike lanes that made me feel safe. Now, we're not going to add more bike lanes that save lives. Since moving to Toronto a year ago I have seen 3 biking accidents occur on streets without bike lanes, all at the fault of car drivers. I'm not able to bike in the suburbs because it is near impossible to bike where they are 6 lanes of traffic and no bike lanes. I would love to bike in the suburbs, it would help us move towards our environment goals, help keep communities active, and reduce gridlock.
Making it easier to add bike lanes is common sense.
