I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 60. This legislation represents a significant step backward for evidence-based transportation planning, local democracy, and public safety across Ontario.

It removes local authority and decision-making power, preventing municipalities from implementing evidence-based projects supported by residents.

It is likely to increase, rather than reduce, traffic congestion. The government’s own experts have confirmed that bike lanes are not a cause of gridlock.

It will compromise road safety. Protected bike lanes significantly reduce serious injuries and fatalities among all road users, including people walking, cycling, and driving.

It threatens other essential uses of public road space, such as transit priority measures, safe pedestrian crossings, patios, curbside access, and school streets.

It undermines provincial climate commitments and public health objectives by entrenching car-dependent street design and discouraging sustainable modes of transportation.

In short, Bill 60 prioritizes motor vehicle throughput over community well-being, safety, and local choice. I urge the Province to withdraw or substantially amend this legislation to respect municipal authority, uphold evidence-based planning, and support safer, more sustainable streets for all Ontarians.
