Municipalities should decide how to use their travel space. As density increases across the province restricting roads to only motor vehicles will increase congestion, as has been proven over and over again and as the governments own reports have shown, for example as part of BIll 212.
Without allowing protected bike lanes or dedicated bus lanes, people will be forced into personal vehicles which will worsen pollution.
This proposal will not achieve it's goals, and will threaten safety of people like me. I am part of a 1 car family and rely on my bike to travel. The more I'm forced onto the road with large motor vehicles, the more risk I face to my life and my ability to provide for my family. And the more I slow down cars.
It also threatens the independence of my children, who will be deprived of an easy path to independence through practical, protected bike lanes and potentially bus routes that run on efficient schedules.
Also, reducing road capacity for motor vehicles does not necessarily increase travel times. In fact it can decrease travel times. This is demonstrated through the Braess Paradox (the Spring Paradox).
