I object to the proposed Bill 60 for two reasons.
1. Moving people around a municipality, whether by roads, transit, bikes or other means should be a municipal jurisdiction not provincial. The municipality is in a much better position to consult with constituents and judge what best meets the needs of the community.
2. It is well established that denser cities are best for the environment and I am pleased to see all levels of government working to increase housing start ups as well as density. Increased density allows for increased investment in transit and bike lanes along with increased use, again, both good for the environment. Moving people around our city is cars, with planned increases in population density, is not smart planning. It is bad for the environment, serves a small portion of the population and can only lead to increase congestion, accidents and road rage. We need to invest in the best transit system possible, complemented by support of active transportation options. And need I talk about the community building/isolation reduction/quality of life benefits of density, walkable and bikeable cities, excellent transit.... Stop resisting the change that we know needs to happen, in order to support some vocal voters and donors.
Thank you
