Dear Ms. Hughes
Re: Climate Change Action Plan: Transportation Sector
Through the City of Sarnia’s staff and committee of council, Bluewater Trail Committee, we would like to offer the following comments:

What infrastructure should be prioritized to make cycling in Ontario safer and more convenient to support commuter cycling between communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations travelled to on a frequent basis?
The City of Sarnia utilizes an old railroad corridor through the middle of our city that service as a main cycling and pedestrian path. The opportunity for funding for new PXO would be the greatest benefit for infrastructure improvement. Below is our list on this matter

-Bike lanes
-Multi-use trails
-Transportation Master Plan
-Bike priority Streets
What evidence can demonstrate the impact of cycling infrastructure investments on the number of cyclist and on GHG emissions?
-Increased riders on the established routes in the City
-Increased cyclist tourism
-Increased sales of bikes
-Increased numbers at local community biking events
Local Cycling Infrastructure
For local cycling networks, what types of cycling infrastructure would best support commuter cycling between residential communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations to on a frequent basis?
-Improve pedestrian crossings at mid-blocks (funding) as per Book 15
-Additional bike lanes
-Increased road resurfacing
-Paved shoulders to connect the rural communities
Provincial Cycling Infrastructure
What types of cycling infrastructure on provincial highways would best support commuter cycling between communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations travelled on a frequent basis?
-Off road bike trail along provincial highways
-Paved shoulders to connect the rural communities
Bike Parking
What types of bike parking facilities (eg., bike racks, fee-based enclosures)are needed to support cycling for commuting and other frequent trips?
-Fee based lockers at malls, work places to store bikes, helmets , backpacks
-Open bike racks at malls, work places with additional storage lockers
-Improved connectivity from the road into the sites
What types of government-owned, publicly accessible faculties should have bike parking?
-Employment centers
-Municipal offices
-Libraries
-Children and adult centers
-Art Galleries
-Hospitals
-Schools / college
-Ferry Crossing
-Banks
What types of transit or transportation stations should have bike parking to support improved cyclist access (eg., GO stations, LR stations, bus terminals)?
-Bus terminals
-VIA Station
What types of private facilities could be potentially eligible to receive provincial funding for bicycle parking facilities?
-YMCA / Health Centers
-Malls
-Golf Courses
-Charity facilities (eg., Goodwill)
-Restaurants/Bars
-Marinas
-Medical clinics
-Grocery Stores
Thanks,
