I am opposed to this bill because it is an overreach of power by the province on matters that should be left up to municipalities to decide based on evidence, planning goals and unique needs.

I am tired of the leadership of this province assuming an adversarial tone in policy making of cars vs bikes or pedestrians or everyone else. This "war on the car" paradigm prevents actual positive changes to street design where everyone can feel safe, and traffic calming and reducing measures are allowed.

This is about how cities are designed and how people get around. I drive, cycle, walk and take public transit to get around, I am not just a cyclist, or pedestrian or driver, I am all of these things and I need a city that can make the best decisions based on those realities, without further constraints from the province. Creating safer streets for multiple modalities also decreases traffic for those people who do have to drive, since there are good alternatives for biking and public transit.

It is counterproductive and backwards to think that cars are entitled to the majority of the streets, we can get beyond the thinking that streets are only made for the benefit of cars. The more public transit is prioritized, the more people will be incentivized to take transit and thus alleviate car-related congestion for those who have to drive (with mobility needs, delivery drivers, taxis).

Last but certainly not least, prioritizing car traffic over other forms of transit will have a negative impact on carbon gas emission and put every municipality constrained by bill 60 at odds with their own carbon gas reducing goals
