I live in Essex County, and I spent two summers working for our local conservation authority. One of the most glaring issues that I have seen with this proposed amalgamation is the lack of acknowledgement of how varied the different regions are in Ontario, and how necessary it is to have tailored, local work done to protect out environment.
The environment in Essex County is invariably different to the environment in London - from the watersheds to the topography to even what animals can be found in each. The weather is even notably different in the winter. And yet, this proposed amalgamation would have both locations in the same RCA, and stretching even farther north.
I understand that this government does not value protecting our natural resources - we have seen that play out time and time again from the bills that have been passed to the prioritization of highways over protected land. I still implore you to not think about the bottom line, for once, and consider the people and the land that this affects.
