Bill 60 needs to be withdrawn.
First, we need bike lanes where ever this makes cycling safer, reduces people's reliance on cars, and liberates us from the gridlock that is clogging our streets in larger cities such as Toronto (yes, bicycle lanes reduce gridlock, not the other way around.)
Second, and equally important, this Bill 60 is yet another example of this Provincial government's overreach. The Premier is only one of many politicians elected in Ontario, not our Supreme Leader. Ontario municipalities are also run by elected councillors -- councillors elected to make the bread-and-butter decisions on transportation, housing, water infrastructure etc, that their constituents want and that are based on actual facts/evidence rather than ideology-driven diktats from above. Let these councillors do their job.
Third, this Bill has been created in secret, without committee input or public debate. Democratic governments are legitimate only when they are transparent and accountable to the people who elect them. Legislative committees and public debate are key means to achieve this. This government consistently shows contempt for Ontarians with its secret and opaque decision-making processes. We the people are growing tired of this.
