As a professional engineer reading this proposal, I cannot see any technical reason why the proposal would achieve it's aim of reducing delays. From my own research there is nothing to suggest that bike lanes have caused delays in cities in Ontario. Instead, they have given people alternatives to driving that are often faster and better suite their needs. The impact on driver's travel time has been minimal. They free up road space for people who need to drive and allowing people who want to take transit or bikes to their destination.

I have been biking to work and to after-work activities in the city of Toronto for 3 years now and the inclusion of bike lanes has greatly grown the number of cyclists I've seen with this year far surpassing any previous years even into the colder months. People are realizing that biking and transit is a real alternative to driving throughout the year.

I highly object to the way this bill is being pushed through without debate from my representative. Car enthusiasts may cheer this legislation. However, this overreach into municipal politics in an un-democratic way can equally work against their interests in the future. It is not infeasible that a future government mandates the removal of car lanes in areas of strong car support.
