This is a gregarious misuse of provincial power at the expense of the people and for the profit of a small group.
This Bill, which I have read in its entirety, is not only a clear devaluation of the very democratic structures of provincial legislation, it gives the people and organizations who have consistently failed more opportunity to do so. In giving Metrolinx more authority, we are effectively rewarding a company that has cost the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario millions of dollars. The Crosstown LRT project alone should be an indicator that we should be giving Metrolinx less authority given it has been nearly 15 years and the project is still not complete. While I recognize this is an ongoing issue, this part is indicative of a larger problem with this bill: it serves to waste more money.
In fact, one does not need an MBA to realize that the alleged business value of this bill is very clearly not there. The only explanation for why anyone with any business sense would propose what is being proposed in this bill is to line their own pockets. And while this province continues to let Doug Ford and with allies rob them for their own personal gain, it is us, the people, who will be feeling the negative impacts of this 10 years from now.
I could mention how this is a direct attack on the middle class, especially given they don't typically own homes in the provinces biggest cities, and how a lot of this will displace families and children but I don't think these folks care about children at all. If they did, we would very clearly not be having this discussion and also would not be the only province incapable of sorting out Daycare subsidies, while my Albertan coworkers bask in their more affordable and straightforward system. So hopefully I can appeal to anyone with any business sense: this is bad idea that will cost much more than is being floated here. You will lose millions and if you care about that at all, you would not pass this bill. If this BIll is passed, we will know for sure that our provincial leaders are corrupt and we, Ontarians, will look even more foolish for letting them pass bills like this.
