Hello,
The City of Ottawa has implemented the SDU provisions for both units within the home and detached from the home. In both scenarios parking is NOT required (but can be provided should an applicant choose to do so, in compliance with our Zoning parking provisions).
The proposed change to require parking for SDU's completely contradicts the direction that the City of Ottawa is going towards with supporting our LRT system and ensuring less pavement. Why would we require someone to provide parking? What if the parking is not needed? What if they are in close proximity to transit? SDU's are meant to be affordable housing units, whereas parking is not a key requirement. Parking should not be required but can be provided should a client wish to do so.
By requiring parking contributes to more paved surfaces and all of the negative environmental affects that go with it.
Please reconsider this part of your proposal.
Regards,
Emily
