DO NOT issue any new Permits to Take Water to any commercial water bottlers - it is a threat to our valuable watershed. Bottling companies manufacture in single use plastics, which is one of the great contributors of non-recycled waste and polluted waters. Over-pumping may also cause subsidence, which California is now experiencing first hand in their farming communities. Water bottling companies have no significant economic benefit for Ontario - they pay a measly $500 per one million litres of water! I pay more each year to water my small city garden in Hamilton!
Additionally, water bottling companies use more water to produce the plastic bottles, bottle the water and then ship it across Canada, and around the world. Giving a Permit to Take Water to a commercial water bottling company that then will sell the water back to its citizens is reckless and short sighted.
This water belongs to the taxpayers of Ontario, who want to ensure our watershed is healthy for our communities, our farmers, and for all of the ecosystems in Ontario. We need to send a message to these companies that while they can invest in Ontario, they cannot pump us dry!
