The Greenbelt must be protected. All Environmentally protected lands should remain protected and we should be adding protections to additional land, not taking any away.
We currently have many crisis caused by the Conservative government with the goal of lining their own pockets as well as those of their friends, we do not need to be taking away protected lands and resources to add to the Environmental crisis. 413 should not be built. The Greenbelt should remain protected from development. What happened to the promise not to touch the Greenbelt?
We as Ontarians need to have access to affordable housing, we have plenty of pre-existing homes that are either not being lived in, or are being put on the markets (rental or sale) for above what they are actually worth.
We need to address the issue of individuals and corporations purchasing multiple homes and profiting off housing instead of allowing individuals the opportunity to have a primary residence.
If it is felt that more housing is required; look into the many development companies destroying farmland in non-Greenbelt locations; look into the many skyscrapers in downtown cores that have wasted office spaces. Make it a condition that developers build a certain number of multi-resident housing blocks for every single family home built. Assess the occupancy of office spaces and skyscrapers, and require certain percentages of the buildings to be offered as affordable housing (converting unused office/commercial space as needed.) Find a solution within the problem.
The cost of living crisis and lack of proper historical increases to minimum wage according to inflation have created the economic storm we are in. Attacking not only our workers, but now our environment, will not help the housing crisis.
