I am a resident of Central Ontario and own property with views of Lake Simcoe. I am absolutely opposed to this proposal! The vast scope of the proposal is objectionable enough. Open season for ten months of the year with up to 50 birds per day allowed to be killed! Lire davantage

As a citizen of Ontario I request that before any additional species is added to the list of animals that can legally be hunted in Ontario, the policies and regulations proposed by government must be backed up with sound science and public consultation. Lire davantage

Allowing the hunting of a bird which should be a protected species, is out-dated, cruel and certainly should not be done! Cormorants benefit other water birds, such as federally protected herons, egrets and pelicans, which exist where cormorants live. Lire davantage

This is one more example of humans believing that we are exempt from nature around us. Cormorants are a part of the land. We have no right to kill them just because we can. The pollution caused will not be addressed by those who pass the law. Humans are slow to learn.

I am horrified that the Ontario government is proposing to declare the Double-crested Cormorant as a game bird. Cormorants are a native species and important part of the ecosystem. Lire davantage

I strongly oppose the proposal of the Ontario government to allow the mass killing of cormorants, which I consider to be inhumane, detrimental to the ecological balance of our environment, unnecessary, and wasteful. I implore you not to enact this proposal.

These birds are devastating our environment. They destroy land wherever they roost. They kill off all vegetation and the stench is crazy. Plus the fact that they are fish eating machines killing off millions of our fish yearly. Lire davantage

I'm posting my comment because I am very concerned that this proposal will devastate the cormorant population, a native species which has only recently recovered in numbers. Lire davantage

Fully support the hunt, just wish it was implemented sooner. This hunt will help the perch populations that we have watch decline significantly as cormorant numbers grew

50 birds / day seems like a very high quota. I would suggest doing a population survey first and reducing the number of birds per day to ensure a sustainable hunt.

These birds have become out of control, from dead trees to drastic drops in fish population and sizes. Even sidewalks are covered in their feces. They need to be eradicated soon before more damage can be done.

Please do not consider establishing a hunting season for double-crested cormorants in Ontario. Very disappointing that the Ontario government is even considering this implementation.

I have watched cormorants slowly destroy the shorelines of my favourite fisheries for the past decade. They need to be culled significantly!

As an Environmental Studies graduate, I find implementing legislation such as this without conducting sufficient bird count surveys to be irresponsible. Lire davantage
