I strongly believe that the Greenbelt, as it stands, should be preserved. The answer to the housing crisis is not more urban sprawl, but increased density where housing already exists. It's a known fact that urban sprawl is more expensive to service. Lire davantage

It makes no real sense to propose changes to the Greenbelt Plan that would remove or re-designate 15 areas of land in the Paris Galt Moraine area. Making room for homes that Ontarians' will barely be able to afford, especially in this area, is not the way to solve this. Lire davantage

Protected areas, like the Greenbelt and conservation areas in general, are protected for a reason and are not acceptable locations for development. Houses can be built elsewhere. Lire davantage

Hacking off pieces of the Greenbelt is profoundly short-sighted and illogical in light of the climate crisis, broken supply chains and looming food scarcity. We need protected farmland in place, ready when folks wake up to reality. We need to build communities up, not out. Lire davantage

I think this is a terrible idea that does not address the core problems it claims to. Increased density in existing urban areas will help; creating more suburban sprawl where little to no public transit exists will only eat up valuable green space and enrich developers. Lire davantage

I am opposed to this urban expansion and reversal of a previous promise by the government not to touch the green belt. Hamilton has enough space within the city to accommodate expansion and population growth. Lire davantage

In September of 2022, prominent developer Michael Rice paid $80M for land that's been protected for almost two decades. Weeks later, Doug Ford announced proposed changes to the Greenbelt. With that, Rice's land was suddenly set to open up for housing. Lire davantage

No do not destroy the greenbelt with build housing. We can find other areas to build affordable housing. Don’t destroy land that can provide food, so we didn’t have to import so many products. Lire davantage

No! We don't need more huge single-family housing that requires long car commutes to get anywhere. We need urban density and small-town revitalization. We need green space to save the planet. Please don't do this.

The proposed removal of land from the Greenbelt will weaken the incentive to support intensification of urban areas. The development could also be detrimental to the ecological integrity of the natural ecosystems which provide valuable services to the residents of the GTHA. Lire davantage

I am writing to express my strong opposition to your proposal to remove 7,400 acres from the Greenbelt (ERO #019-6216 and #019-6217). I do not accept the government’s misleading premise that these Greenbelt lands are needed for housing. Lire davantage
