The potential cultural, intellectual, and emotional heritage that will be lost as a result of the removal of required assessments is exponential. To compare financial savings - which to be clear, this will not affect the bottom line cost for home-buyers - is immoral and frankly illogical. Lire davantage

It's extremely disrespectful to not only the First Nations of Ontario, but the all of the archaeology companies to try and get rid of 99% of archaeology as a whole. The First Nations have been disrespected enough in the past and for this bill to be passed would be another slap in the face. Lire davantage

I'd like to share concerns with the proposed amendments to the Ontario Heritage Act. My concerns are in line with those of the archaeology company I work for (ASI Heritage), who have written a letter to the Minister of MCM (among others). Some key points from this letter: Lire davantage

The use of archaeology as a pre-development screening is incredibly important as it provides numerous entry level job opportunities at a liveable wage but more importantly is that this process is actively strengthening connections with indigenous communities. Lire davantage

This proposed Bill will be devastating to Indigenous rights and interests because it does not include any explicit oversight mechanisms in which Indigenous Governments will be able to participate in decision-making. It will also be disturbing archeological sites without a license. Lire davantage

History is the only way we learn so we will not make the same mistakes as our forefathers. Guess the proposers of this bill missed the history lessons!

Hello I believe that this bill will set back Ontario and Canada's goal towards reconciliation as construction without proper archeological assessment will damage or destroy artifacts/ belongings belongings to our indigenous peoples Lire davantage

I oppose this bill because it will allow for exemptions to the archelogical requirements. Our history is important and needs to be protected. We cannot just pave over everything and ignore what was there before.

Another ridiculous proposal. There would be no environmental oversite, and "friends of the court" would have free reign. Lire davantage

This bill disregards Indigenous rights to preserve their culture. Efficiencies can always be found but eliminating it as a pre-requisite for development is not the way. There are thousands of sites and potential burial grounds, many undocumented, that could be impacted and destroyed. Lire davantage

In this day and age it is inconceivable that we would ride roughshod over the interests of our indigenous neighbours. We cannot afford to bulldoze indigenous archaeological sites for short term gain. This will likely lead to actions such as protests that could actually delay development. Lire davantage
