The whole process is far too cumbersome and generally unrewarded to hunters year over year. Many hunters have just given up on moose hunting and put all their energy into enjoying the deer hunt. Maybe this is by design by the MNR. If so, it is working. Read more

Great change ideas. I personally know of hunters who did not claim tags from the second draw therefore taking chances away from other hunters to enjoy a moose season. I would be happy with a chance at a calf tag every year. Finally was awarded a cow tag this year after nearly a 40 year wait. Read more

I have hunted moose in Ontario for 45 years. I and retired from working for MNR for 35 years in wildlife enforcement. Moose hunting to me and other hunters is a social activity which has long history of tradition. Group size varies but generally one moose tag will suffice. Read more

Hi Just like my comment a few years ago, there is no link on the MNRF web pages to find this proposal, or even a place for hunter input on the effectiveness of the current allocation process. I do review the database for allocation results to assist the application process. Read more

The current tag allocation system is perfect the way it is right now. This system is a fair so everyone gets the same opportunity to draw successfully. It is absurd that people want to return to the lottery system when, right now, there are still hundreds of people who have 20+ points. Read more

After shooting a moose you need lots of help to get that moose out of the woods. It is heavy work. If no one is willing to join me on my second choice hunt, I would prefer to leave the tag for someone else.

It is hard to get a tag as a new coming hunter with WMU with higher point minimum… this new rule if implemented for loosing your points either way you accept it or not would definitely help the minimum points needed.

Hello. Yes changes are necessary. You should also look into actual residence of any Moose WMU having priority over non-residents of said WMU. Not every year but every 4-5yrs. By the time I have enough points to receive a tag for my WMU I'll be 70. Read more

This will only make this terrible system eff CD en worse. I have not been able to hunt for the last 3 years due to no tags. We wee a group of 8. Maybe next year….. you even took the tag we could have bought from the outfitter. He is not happy either. Read more

Thanks for taking comments on the process. I hunt in a group of 6 people all family. We don’t have a single tag this year. We wont be eligible for a bull tag for another 6! A cow for another 4 unless we use our pts that we are saving for a bull. Read more

Tag allocation and available moose needs to take into account traditional harvesting from Metis and indigenous people. None of these groups have any way, shape, or form of regulating and check-in to maintain a healthy moose population. Read more

I think this is a good idea and gives hope to people trying to actually get out and hunt in smaller groups. My son and I are trying to get a tag to bow hunt and with a better chance without waiting 7 plus years to get a is hard might get two hunts in 20 years.

I have hunted moose for about 25 years and agree with the proposal. That said, awarded tags that end up unclaimed after the last chance draw might still be an issue. It will be interesting to review the data in a couple of years after the changes are in place. Read more
