The proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act, with the introduction of Bill 5 is something that I am directly opposed to. I am making this comment to express my displeasure with the Bill and concern for the many protections that are being removed with the revision. Read more

I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025. This omnibus legislation dismantles key parts of Ontario's environmental protections and introduces uncertainty about the province’s commitments to Indigenous communities. Read more

Bill 5 proposes to repeal the Endangered Species Act — one of the few tools we have to protect at-risk wildlife and the ecosystems they depend on. Replacing it with vague "goals" and unenforceable measures will lead to the further decline of species already on the brink. This is not modernization. Read more

As a grassroots, environmental activist and Indigenous ally, I strongly oppose this legislation and I'm appalled that a Government of Ontario, supposedly acting in the best interests of its constituents, would suggest that Bill 5 is the best way to protect Ontario’s economy. Read more

Equally alarming is the creation of "special economic zones" that would allow cabinet to approve major development projects without proper environmental assessment, public input or Indigenous consultation. Read more

Ontarians have not asked for weaker protections or less say in decisions that affect the province's land, water and future. Bill 5 would silence community voices, marginalize science and erase decades of hard-won environmental progress.

I urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill 5 in its entirety and instead work with environmental experts, Indigenous leaders and the public to strengthen — not dismantle — our systems of environmental protection.

To compromise our environment for the sake of developer profit is just not acceptable. This is not responsible economics - money in the hands of few…..What future are we creating for the benefit of our next generations?! Bill 5 makes no logical sense.

This bill is a greedy and poorly disguised attack on the rights of endangered species. Have we not, as humans, had our sprawl? Our fifteen minutes in the sunlight? How can anyone who calls themself a decent person propose such a thing, to cement over an animal's home to afford one more parking lot? Read more

I am opposed to this proposal. Endangered species can be wiped out so quickly if we don't take the time to make sure we do things in a way that won't impact them. We can't rush when so much is at risk.
