(I would like to update my earlier comments to reflect this more thoughtful submission) I am opposed to the proposal to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into 7 large regional authorities as the resulting organization will be ineffective at applying science and local insight. We live in an area that is fighting against a blast below the water table quarry. This is not a NIMBY fight, it is a fight for survial of a whole community, and the water systems that provide drinking water in many areas where the aquifers flow. Read more

Existing RCAs are democratic, locally-serving and scientifically defensible. The new bill is not. No need for these changes; they do not reflect popular opinion nor can the present government legitimately argue that they had/have/or will have a mandate for this form of top-down governance. The conservation authority has been a source of education and assistance to help reduce erosion, wind, and water control on our small farm. They have boots on the ground in the communities they serve, and they know the solutions that work and don't work. Read more
