This is a welcome but very modest step toward more rational and effective air quality management in Ontario. It is in itself of limited significance because it only addresses 2 contaminants, and only applies to new/increased emissions in 2 areas where contamination already regularly exceeds AAQCs.

More information needs to be provided on new or expanding facilities that would be required to purchase and operate ‘best available’ pollution control technologies as a result of high concentrations noted in the cumulative effects assessment.

The policy only applies to new or expanding facilities; this is not good enough in Hamilton where we have existing facilities that are currently contributing signification emissions. These must be included also and being exempt with grand father clauses be removed
