This definitely should not be allowed ! I’m completely against this ! What is the purpose to lure bears out to open n closer to public spaces to be hunted ! This is not fair game !

Finally something that makes sense coupled with best hunting practices. Of course, the Ontario Government/MNRF is still in the 1800's trying to manage a forest with little or no standing fiber left. And, if we allow hunting in a park it should be both spring and fall!

I object to this proposed change. The wilderness of Ontario is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. The bears are not dangerous, while hiking and enjoying the outdoors near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Ontario better not allow this change to take place. Read more

The only ones confused about rules around “distances from right of way” are hunters who desire to shoot bears from easier access points. Hunting is no “sport” when baiting is involved. Bringing bear baits closer to public access areas, puts general users at greater risk for conflicts. Read more

"I object. Move bear baiting sites farther away, the wilderness of Ontario is used by many people, not just hunters and I do not appreciate the garbage/junk left by bear baiters. The bears are not likely dangerous. Read more

I think this change is ridiculous. I don’t believe “hunters” should use bait to lure the bears in the first place. If you want to be a hunter, then hunt! Don’t lure the animals to you so you can relax and shoot it. I call that murder!! There’s no hunt involved. Read more

This makes absolutely no sense. You will be bringing bears and the hunters shooting at them closer to traffic and people! Bears could be driven into traffic and into the paths of hikers and hunters will be discharging firearms in close proximity as well. Why go from 200 metres down to 30 metres? Read more

I feel like dumping attractants is a bad idea in the first place. It teaches animals to look for garbage and human food for consumption. It habituates animals and can attract domestic animals and encourage wandering. I feel it's a form of littering as well. Read more

This is a disgraceful act that should haunt human morality. Wildlife should be protected under the law instead of being killed. The killers who enjoy the idea of killing for pleasure should’t be supported by our government. They should be prosecuted for their atrocious and immoral acts. Read more

This bear baiting is beyond cruel. How fun is it to entice bears with food so you can shoot them. Hunting in this day and age when animals struggle to survive is ludicrous. Enticing bears closer to recreational areas is a recipe for disaster. I do not approve this.

I object. Move bear baiting sites farther away,or better yet, don't bait at all. The wilderness of Ontario is used by many people, more & more people are interested in nature. Shooting with cameras. Not just hunters with weapons, and I do not appreciate the garbage/junk left by bear baiters. Read more

This proposed change is not respectful to many who spend time in forests. To allow for bear hunting within such short distance from public trails is dangerous for all others using these trails for recreational purposes. Read more

So where in 'fair chase' does baiting come in? This is not a sport, this is psychotic fat boys hunting from safety up in a tree while an unsuspecting animal takes food he has been conditioned to expect. What is wrong with you that you do not see that this is ethically and morally wrong? Read more

I am opposed to this proposal and feel strongly that such activity puts people, pets, and wildlife in harms way. Non target animals are put at risk. I am opposed to the baiting and killing of black bears. They are a keystone species needlessly killer. Read more

I think this is a good idea. I understand the distance with the houses and buildings. I know it is getting harder and harder to get people out because of their age. No one in their 60's want to walk in through a bush 200 meters to hunt a bear that may run another 200 meters further after a shot. Read more

After many years without a spring bear hunt, it was great to see it come back. I am a tourist outfitter in Northwestern Ontario and we have a very healthy bear population in our area. The 200m from a road or trail has been very challenging to deal with. Read more
