I believe that the proposal is a good one for falconers. An easier access to birds of prey as well as more species wpuld help the hobby to grow. The predicted impact on the bird species amd population is neutral so there would be no megative impact on conservation. Read more

Northern Goshawks are not an abundant bird in Ontario. Given the current pressures on their habitat as well as climate change, it is not a good idea to allow wild birds to be captured for falconry. Perhaps a breeding program would be better for falconers.

I very strongly object to the proposal to add Northern Goshawk to the list of wild hawks which may be subject to capture/training by falconers. Despite the small number proposed, this species is far less common than the four species already on the list and warrants protection from this activity.

Northern Goshawks have undergone a dramatic population decline over the past few decades and are now a relatively rare species in Ontario. This species SHOULD NOT be captured for the falconry trade because of their current status. Read more

I am very much against the increase of taking wild raptors in the wild for falconry. For the past 4 years at hawk watches we are seeing a decline in numbers instead of increases. There are many places that raise raptors for falconry. We need to help the animals not destroy the population. Read more

While I have nothing against the practice of falconry, I see no benefit to adding to the number of raptors that can be taken from the wild, or to the addition of Northern Goshawks to this list. No evidence is presented that this will no impact on their wild populations, all of which are in decline. Read more

Changes to the number of falcons that can be captured in Ontario and permitting the capture of Northern Goshawks should be deferred until after the publication of the third breeding atlas by the Ontario Field Ornithologists and its findings have been reviewed. Read more
