The Ministry should phase in more stringent limits and require actions that lead to continuous improvement so that ASI continues to work towards meeting the Reg 419 limits for both of these contaminants (benzene, suspended particulate matter,) over the next 2.5 years. Read more

Benzene is a known carcinogen. The current Algoma Steel site-specific standard for benzene is five times the ministry’s benzene air standard. The fact that substantive progress has not been made on meeting provincial standards and the people of Sault Ste. Read more

Please do not extend compliance deadlines beyond one year, such as 2021. Industry has known these standards for years or plan and implement. Given the pandemic has disrupted 2020, annexation of one year on the original compliance date is reasonable. Thank you.

First off the ERO number is hidden by writing over it! My best guess is that number is ERO 019-2301. I am concerned about extending the expiry dates of site specific standards for suspended particulate matter and benzene for Algoma Steel. Read more

As a lifelong citizen of Sault Ste. Marie, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer at 38 years old, I strongly oppose this extension and feel the citizens of Sault .Ste. Marie deserve better. We deserve a government that holds that The Algoma Steel accountable. Read more

As a citizen of Sault Ste Marie, I do not want to see exceptions like this made for Algoma Steel. They are a for profit company and should have to comply with Ontario health standards. The people of Sault Ste Marie deserve that much. Read more

A lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie and firsthand witness of the air pollution produced by Algoma Steel, I do not support the provision of an extension to the company that allows them to continue to emit more than the acceptable limit of benzene, pyrobenzene and particulates. Read more
