The Ontario government will end up passing this bill and it will hinder municipalities ability to properly plan for/pay for growth. This bill is shortsighted and was created when a so-called “housing crisis” was going on.

I have zero interest in seeing more suburban sprawl of unlivable, poor quality of life mid tier housing that is hardly affordable to begin with and only leads to expansion of car culture. The housing crisis is not in shortage of suburban houses.

After reviewing this legislation I can only conclude that the results will enrich developers and force municipalities to increase their tax rates to cover the revenues they will lose that currently pay for the building of roads and other infrastructure needed to support growth.

This proposal erodes local democratic rights, proper processes and planning authority. It will undo years of planning accomplishments that represent the best interests of our citizens and keep our communities great places to live.
Bill 23 undermines democratic participation of citizens in the planning process and makes it impossible for Ontario and municipalities to meet climate change and energy efficiency targets for buildings.
