I would like to know how the Director of Mine Rehabilitation feels about these proposed changes? Who is the Director of Mine Rehabilitation and the Director of Exploration?
Conditional Filing Order – how is the Minister qualified (surface water expert, groundwater expert, geochemical scientist, engineer) to determine if a certain element of the closure plan will not have an effect of the environment and/or safety?

I disagree with this proposal.
1) By eliminating role of Director of Mine Rehabilitation and transferring responisibilities to Minister, political decisions will be made rather than proper mining decisions.

The government needs to slow down and consider Bill 71 more. First Nations are not supporting these rushed changes. The government needs to consult with First Nations and the public more, this needs to be more transparent and not so rushed.

My first comment on this bill is that knowing the nature of it being filled does not recognize treaty 9 rights and the need to engage with first nations affected in the region of the Ring of Fire which is the main reason for the nature of this bill 71. This will be my first comment, more to follow.
On the subject of mine closure changes, As a member of the Montcalm Mine Environmental Liaison Group, this mine site, now owned by Glencore, has been in permanent shutdown since 2009. The 15 km effluent line that was to be removed as per approved closure plan is still in the ground.

If I understand correctly, the present elected Minister of Mines wants to replace the Director of Exploration and the Director of Mines Rehabilitation. Bill 71 Building More Mines should not be about accelerating the process or removing existing public appointments to do what needs to be done.
