I strongly disagree with proposed regulation to list Flowering Rush as a restricted species. This plant has invaded the Winnipeg River near Minaki Ontario clogging bays and shoreline causing major damage to the local environment . Flowering Rush should be listed as a prohibited species !!!

Flowering Rush should be designated as a "prohibited" species under the Regulations.
In our region, particularly Clearwater Bay (at Lake of the Woods, ON) this aggressive invasive species has and is spreading rapidly. Key impacts of concern:

As a cottage owner and avid fisherman in Minaki Ontario on the Winnipeg River I’ve seen first hand the impact of flowering rush. I can no longer access my docking area without repeatedly clearing the rush and almost every bay in the Sand Lake area is fully engulfed.

I am deeply concerned about the proliferation of flowering rush in the Winnipeg River system. I have lived here for 35 years and in the last 3-4 years I have witnessed the choking off of entire bays and shorelines by this highly invasive plant.

With respect to Flowering-rush (Butomus umbellatus) / Aquatic plant being designated as restricted. I submit that the appropriate designation for this INVASIVE species should be PROHIBITED 🚫. As a cottage owner in the Winnipeg river system I can attest to the alarming spread of this plant.

Oh my God! You must have no idea what the flowering rush situation in Minaki is like! My family has owned an island in the Winnipeg River near Minaki for 63 years, and now we have outcroppings of flowering rush here and there all along our shore.

I have a cottage in Minaki Ontario on the Winnipeg River. There is a heavy infestation of flowering rush along my frontage, as well as the frontage of all other cottagers with shallows in the Jackfish Bay area and along the Winnipeg River downstream from Kenora.

I am a summer resident of the Minaki area on the Winnipeg River. I am in favour of restricting flowering rush as much as possible and enabling the destruction of the plant as an invasive spiecie in Ontario.

Flowering rush is a true threat to waterways and should be more appropriately categorized as a prohibited species. It has had a heavy impact on our bay/swimming area and spread quickly over the last several years.

I commend the initiative to list Flowering Rush by Regulation under the Invasive Species Act – this is long overdue but does not go far enough to address the threats posed by this aggressive invader.
• The proposed listing of Flowering Rush as Restricted is severely inadequate.

I am a seasonal resident at our cottage on Gun Lake in Minaki, Ontario. We had Flowering Rush appear out of nowhere in our secluded bay last year, and have been taking measures to keep it at bay since then. It is a never-ending job.

We are concerned that Flowering Rush is not considered a ‘prohibitive ‘ species in North Western Ontario, Winnipeg River area & Minaki area.
We have been residents for the past 20 years in this area. Up until approximately the last 5 years we were not even aware of Flowering Rush.

Noted your intention to classify Flowering Rush ("FR") as Restricted not Prohibited. We have a seasonal residence at Minaki Ontario on the Winnipeg River.

The spread of flowering rush on the Winnipeg River north of Minaki, Ont., has clogged our tiny bay to the point where it’s become unusable. The growth has also driven away beavers long resident there. Please classify flowering rush as Restricted!
On behalf of the 269-member Minaki Conservancy, I call on the ERO to classify flowering rush (Butomus umbellatus) as PROHIBITED under the Ontario Invasive Species Act.

I disapprove of categorizing flowering rush as "Restricted". It should be categorized at "Prohibited". There is heavy infestation along shorelines, shallow channels, and bays in the Winnipeg River from Kenora to the White Dog Dam.
