I strongly oppose Bill 5. Ontario should prioritize ecological stewardship to protect our environment and species for our country now and future generations. Bill 5 is bad for our environment and bad for our people, especially indigenous people. Read more

I am incredibly concerned and outraged by the replacement of the Endangered Species Act. Politicians and bureaucrats have neither the education, expertise or impartiality to replace scientists in deciding which plants and animals should be protected. Read more

This proposal sets a dangerous precedent that the delicate ecological balance of Ontario's wildlife and natural environments can be sold to the highest bidderon the whim of a single political party, with limited insight from any actual environmental scientists, conservationists, indigenous people's Read more

The Orwellian name for Bill 5: the 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐛𝐲 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭 sounds "double-plus good" for the same oligarchs this government has served since 2018. Read more

Bill 5 is an awful and destructive bill that will seriously hinder conservation of Ontario's ecosystems. It violates indigenous treaty rights. It reduces the ability of government to enforce the Endangered Species Act and be held accountable. Read more

There is no economy or society with the environment; without our planet. We need to do everything we can to protect the life of all species in our world. I support this proposal to secure stronger protections for our environment. I oppose Bill 5.

I disagree with this proposal. It does not make sense for proponents to start developing before knowing whether their project will have an environmental impact. As well, if the government is able to edit the list of species at risk, they can choose to remove species which hinder development. Read more

Framing the current Endangered Species Act as doing nothing but "causing unnecessary delays and costs for housing, transit, and critical infrastructure" is dismissive of the inherent nuance associated with conservation efforts, and the time it takes to meaningfully effectuate them. Read more

I do not support the repeal of the Endangered Species Act. Repealing the Endangered Species Act and replacing it with a registration scheme is akin to legislating out of the Ontario government's duty to consult obligations by removing the government decision that would require consultation.
