This is not a good idea. These standards are important not only for safety but for energy cost savings and our well-being. This will only lead to more spending in the future to retrofit buildings once it's realized this is a bad idea.

I am concerned about the potential gutting of the Toronto Green Development Standard in this Bill. When new homes aren’t built to meet high energy standards, people end up paying more for heating, cooling, and electricity over the building’s lifetime. Read more

Features such as improved insulation make homes less expensive in the long run by reducing the utility bills. To be cost effective these changes need to be done during construction. For example, it is a small cost to put in R22 insulation instead of R20 when a home is being built. Read more
