While the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) Transportation Plan for 2051 is still under development, this posting is being closed. The input from this notice that originated from 2017 informed the development of a comprehensive range of transportation planning goals and objectives that is providing guiding direction for the plan.

We are moving forward with regulatory changes that will require proponents to self-register more types of waste management systems online. These changes will make it easier for the waste management sector to obtain environmental permissions and begin operations faster, while continuing to protect human health and the environment.

The ministry is streamlining permissions for certain storm water management works by moving them to a registration-first approach or exempting them from a permission. These changes will allow important projects to begin faster while ensuring appropriate environmental protections are in place.

Municipalities subject to the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe are required to use a standard approach to calculate the amount of land needed to accommodate population and employment growth.

Ontario has made amendments to Ontario Regulation 406/19 to enable greater reuse of excess soil, provide added flexibility in soil management options, and reduce costs for businesses. We have created Monarch Point Conservation Reserve in Prince Edward County to provide greater protection to the area. The conservation reserve was created through regulation under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006.

We have introduced legislative and regulatory changes to enable the IESO to launch a clean energy credit (CEC) registry to track the transfer and retirement of voluntarily purchased CECs generated from Ontario’s clean electricity supply. The CEC registry will provide businesses with a new tool to meet their corporate sustainability goals.  

A decision has been made not to proceed with the proposal to make a regulation for a streamlined environmental assessment process for the Ministry of Transportation’s Greater Toronto Area West Transportation Corridor project (Highway 413).

Ontario has made amendments to Ontario Regulation 406/19 and the associated Soil Rules to increase soil management flexibility and support greater reuse of excess soil from housing, infrastructure, and other construction projects.

Application 58-C-257936 to create a new 4.2 hectare waterfront lot to be used for resource-based recreational use, was approved by the Ministry, subject to conditions. Related applications 58-C-258049 (ERO 025-0867) and 58-C-258161 (ERO 025-0868) were also approved subject to conditions.

Amendment 1 to A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe is now in effect. The amendment includes changes to the population and employment forecasts, the horizon year for planning, and other policies to increase housing supply, create jobs, attract business investment and better align with infrastructure.

The government has released A Place to Grow, which replaces the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2017. It introduces more flexibility to planning and greater local autonomy. It addresses barriers to building homes, creating jobs, attracting investments and putting in place the right infrastructure while protecting the environment.
