We have established the Species Conservation Action Agency to invest in strategic, large-scale, and coordinated actions that will support more positive outcomes for select species at risk. We also created regulations to enable use of the Species at Risk Conservation Fund and expand conditional exemptions for activities with standard approaches.

Amendments were made to the regulation to align with new transition rules related to the restoration of municipal planning authority resulting from changes made to the Planning Act by the Green Energy Repeal Act, 2018.

A new regulation will make tire producers environmentally and financially responsible for recovering resources and reducing waste associated with the tires they supply in Ontario. This will further reduce the amount of tires lost to disposal, benefit our environment and economy, and support our efforts to fight climate change.
Based on feedback received through engagement, we have decided to withdraw the proposal to repeal the Far North Act. We are now proposing to refocus the Act with proposed amendments to provisions that may hinder economic development and enhancing provisions that encourage collaboration with First Nations in the Far North regarding land use planning

The fees collected for issuing Crown land dispositions such as leases and land use permit have not changed since 2003. In many cases, the cost to deliver these services exceeds the fees collected. We have updated these fees to keep pace with service costs and inflation.

The Director of Mine Rehabilitation has acknowledged receipt of the Closure Plan according to the provisions of the Mining Act. The Certified Closure Plan is now considered filed and the proponent must comply with the Closure Plan.
We have adopted a new Technical Standard for mining sites to address air emissions and help protect communities who live close to these industrial sources. This is a sector-based compliance approach under the local air quality regulation.
The Endangered Species Act, 2007 was amended as part of the More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019 to better enable positive outcomes for species at risk while streamlining processes.
We made a boundary amendment to Mellon Lake Conservation Reserve, by way of an amendment to Ontario Regulation 315/07 under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006. The amendment added 1,082 acres (438 hectares) of former forest reserve land to Mellon Lake Conservation Reserve following through on a long-standing land use decision.
The ARA Regulation and supporting policies have been amended to clarify and streamline the process for amending an existing aggregate licence, permit or site plan (subject to conditions).

The Ministry is issuing a Minister’s Order to Algoma Ferrous Industries Inc., under subsection 147(1) of the Mining Act, to file a closure plan to rehabilitate mine hazards at the MacLeod Mine site. The result would be the receipt of a closure plan for the rehabilitation of mine hazards, including associated financial assurance.
