Permit to Take Water No. P-300-7269839036 has been issued to Evolution Mining Gold Operations Ltd. for construction dewatering and construction water diversion purposes. Water will be taken from one pond, located in Balmertown, Ontario for two years.

A new Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise) was issued to G W Metal Mining Inc., a plastic, steel and e-waste shredding and recycling facility, located in the City of Pembroke, Ontario.

A new regulation has been made specifying the circumstances under which the Minister of Natural Resources (“Minister”) may issue an order to make a permitting decision in place of a conservation authority or undertake a review of a conservation authority permitting decision.

The Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act has been updated to remove the requirement to publish notices of proposed amendments to the Niagara Escarpment Plan and associated hearings in newspapers, enables broader exemptions for low-risk activities, and broadens the range of compliance tools for the Niagara Escarpment Commission.

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the exploration permit application PR-21-000267 to Evolution Mining Gold Operations for early exploration activities 90 kilometres NW of Wabauskang First Nation Ontario, Bateman Township, District of Kenora, North West Region.

An amending regulation under the Planning Act was filed on March 5, 2018 and came into force on April 3, 2018. The regulation sets out new transition rules to deal with certain planning matters in process when the land use planning changes made by the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017 took effect.

On February 6, 2023, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing posted to the Environmental Registry a proposal for a new Minister’s regulation under the Planning Act that would require 29 municipalities in Ontario to report data on planning matters on a quarterly and annual basis. The Ministry decided to proceed with the Minister’s regulation.

Bill 139 received Royal Assent on December 4, 2023. Schedule 14 amends the Ontario Heritage Act (OHA) to change application requirements, timing and approvals for alteration requests to minimize interruption of religious practice at buildings used primarily for religious practices where all applicable conditions are met. 

Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act, received Royal Assent on November 28, 2022. The Act amends the Ontario Heritage Act (OHA) and its regulations to reduce red tape and remove barriers that are slowing down housing construction and other priority projects while continuing to conserve heritage properties that matter most to local communities.

Changes have been made to Ontario Regulation 299/19: Additional Residential Units to facilitate the creation of additional residential units by removing barriers that would reduce or eliminate the need for rezoning or minor variances in certain cases. The amended regulation can be accessed here:

On May 29, 2025, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing filed Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 80/25. The Ministry of Health requested that the Minister consider making the Zoning Order.

No changes are proposed to the enhanced minister’s zoning authority. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing will exercise their discretion, on a case by case basis, in using the authority.

On August 29, 2025, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing filed a Minister's Zoning Order (with conditions) with the Registrar of Regulations as Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 205/25 in the City of Markham. The Minister of Long-term Care requested that the Minister consider making the Zoning Order, which was supported by Markham's Mayor.

Permit to Take Water No. P-300-9199395329 has been issued to Evolution Mining Gold Operations Ltd., renewing Permit to Take Water No. 6702-C8FPK3 for mining dewatering from the Bateman Shaft, located in the Town of Red Lake, District of Kenora, Ontario.

Amendments were recently made to the Ontario Heritage Act to provide new and modified tools to improve enforcement and compliance. Once in force, new amendments will also allow for exemptions to archaeological requirements where it could potentially advance a provincial priority.
