An amending regulation under the Planning Act was filed on March 5, 2018 and came into force on April 3, 2018. The regulation sets out new transition rules to deal with certain planning matters in process when the land use planning changes made by the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017 took effect.
On February 6, 2023, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing posted to the Environmental Registry a proposal for a new Minister’s regulation under the Planning Act that would require 29 municipalities in Ontario to report data on planning matters on a quarterly and annual basis. The Ministry decided to proceed with the Minister’s regulation.
The Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction has proposed the Better for People, Smarter for Business Act, 2020, which features a wide range of items that cut across themes and ministries. Items in the package will reduce the number of requirements and the cost of doing business in the province, to support economic recovery.

The Government of Ontario is committed to continuing to help Ontarians save time and money by reducing red tape and is dedicated to supporting better services and a stronger economy. In alignment with this commitment, the Minister of Red Tape Reduction (MRTR) has introduced Bill 227 (Cutting Red Tape, Building Ontario Act, 2024).
Amendments were recently made to the Ontario Heritage Act to provide new and modified tools to improve enforcement and compliance. Once in force, new amendments will also allow for exemptions to archaeological requirements where it could potentially advance a provincial priority.
The Minister of Red Tape Reduction introduced the proposed Less Red Tape, Stronger Ontario Act, 2023 to increase Ontario’s competitiveness and build a stronger supply chain, and make government easier to interact with by cutting red tape.
