A number of amending regulations under the Planning Act were filed on March 5, 2018 and came into force on April 3, 2018. The changes to the regulations facilitate implementation of legislative changes made by the Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017.

Bill 132, The Better for People, Smarter for Business Act 2019, received Royal Assent on December 10, 2019 and amended the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, the Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act and the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act (LRIA).

Ontario Regulation 102/20 Monitoring of Mercury Near Dams under the LRIA was approved on March 30, 2020.

Approval was granted for Licence No. 625855 to allow Lafarge Canada Inc. to add a third phasing to the operation and change the final end use to a meadow by filling the pond. Approval was also granted for site plan amendment No. 2079 to change the final rehabilitation plan to allow the creation of a silt berm and remain post surrender.

Application 58-C-241428 was approved on May 6, 2025, subject to conditions.  The last date to appeal the decision under the Planning Act is May 26, 2025.

Ontario has made changes to the Planning Act, City of Toronto Act, 2006 and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Act to support increasing housing supply and streamlining planning processes.

We decided to amend the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, to require the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to exempt a person (i.e., project proponent) from leave to construct requirements if the OEB is satisfied that the circumstances prescribed by regulations have been met.

The minister has issued an overall benefit permit to a private landowner for the development of a single residential home that may impact Butternut, a species at risk tree. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has issued an overall benefit permit to CRH Canada Group Inc. for aggregate extraction that may impact two species at risk salamanders. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects and benefit the species, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

Provisional consent was granted with modifications on December 9, 2021 in respect of Application 58-C-206652 for the creation of one new lot for commercial recreational use on lands described as PIN 62505-1466, in unsurveyed territory, in the District of Thunder Bay. The last day this decision can be appealed is December 29, 2021.

A Certificate of Property Use (CPU) was issued to Imperial Oil Limited for the continued commercial use of the property located at 1508 Richmond Road in the City of Ottawa.

A Certificate of Property Use was issued to Dalip Centre Holdco Inc. and Imperial Oil Limited for the continued commercial use of the property located at 1490 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario.

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the exploration permit application PR-23-000102 to 2758145 Ontario Ltd. for early exploration activities .

The decision is to: issue the mineral exploration permit.

We reviewed the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to improve protections for species at risk, consider modern and innovative approaches to achieve positive outcomes for species at risk, streamline approvals and provide clarity to support economic development. As a result of the review, we are proceeding with proposing amendments to the act.

The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

A decision was made on May 13, 2024 to approve Haldimand County Official Plan Amendment 69, as adopted by By-law 1320-HC/22. The approved Haldimand Official Plan Amendment 69 proposes amendments across a number of policy themes/sections, including natural heritage, affordable housing, and mineral aggregates, as well as mapping changes.
