Ontario has made changes to the Planning Act, City of Toronto Act, 2006, and Municipal Act, 2001 through the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, 2024 (‘Bill 185’).

We have decided to end the nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide emissions trading program by revoking O. Reg. 397/01 and O. Reg. 194/05 under the Environmental Protection Act. The Program is no longer an effective tool to address emissions of these contaminants from regulated sectors in its current form.

Building Better Lives: Ontario’s Long-Term Infrastructure Plan, 2017 (“LTIP 2017”) was released on November 28, 2017. The 2017 Plan set out the previous government’s vision for infrastructure planning and investment in Ontario.

This ministry has approved site-specific standards for sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and sulphuric acid for Ontario Power Generation’s Lennox Generating Station in Napanee, Ontario for a 10-year period.

As part of the redevelopment of Ontario Place, the Ministry of Infrastructure has completed the Category C Public Work Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Project for the future public spaces and parkland (the public realm). The Environmental Study Report (ESR) has been finalized and outlines the preferred design for the public realm at the site.

To further reduce regulatory burden for the waterpower sector while maintaining environmental protection, we have removed existing Permits to Take Water for waterpower facilities. This action follows amendments to the Ontario Water Resources Act in December 2019 that removed the need for these facilities to have a Permit to Take Water.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to 2434233 Ontario Ltd. to construct a multi-unit residential development that will impact three species at risk and their habitat. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements

A decision was made on July 25, 2025, to approve Official Plan Amendment 124 to the London Plan, as adopted by By-law No. C.P.-1512(du)-223, with no modifications. OPA 124 aims to update policies on building heights, introduce new Transit Villages, and designate Strategic Growth and Major Shopping Areas to enhance housing and economic development.

We have amended the Emissions Performance Standards (EPS) and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting programs to provide voluntary participants with more flexibility to exit the EPS program.

A decision was made on February 19, 2026 to approve Amendment No. 1 to the Northumberland County Official Plan adopted by By-law 38-2021, subject to nine (9) modifications. The approved amendment updates the official plan to add Natural Heritage System policies and mapping to the Northumberland County Official Plan.

The government has issued the Provincial Policy Statement, 2020 to help increase the supply of housing, support jobs and reduce barriers and costs in the land use planning system.

Pursuant to section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent to transfer an easement in favour of Bell Canada was granted on January 21, 2025, subject to conditions.

We have approved updates to the Natural Heritage Assessment Guide (the Guide) for renewable energy projects. The updated Guide will ensure the ministry’s Natural Heritage Assessment process for renewable energy projects aligns with the regulatory amendments that were proposed to O. Reg. 359/09 (Renewable Energy Approvals Regulation).
