The Auditor General of Ontario has already found the redevelopment of Ontario Place to be 'not fair, transparent or accountable'. This Act would move it even further into the shadows, as redevelopment would no longer be subject to public scrutiny.
Proposals will no longer have to be posted on the Environmental Registry. We will no longer know about plans to dump sewage in the West Channel, an ERO posting which got thousands of alarmed comments earlier this year before being withdrawn.
How, in this day and age, with what we know about the environment, could such a plan even have been considered? It is evident that public scrutiny is essential.
