As humans we need to take responsibility as the caretakers of this planet to ensure the well being of all the inhabitants. We do this through first realizing that as the primary species we are unequivocally ruining the environment through our industrial activities. Change only occurs if there at incentives, at least at first.
Ontario is doing the right thing with the EV incentive program to start the process of ridding our roads of cars that emit toxic gases (ICE cars). I feel the current incentives while a good start are a bit unfair in some respects. Firstly, pure BEVs should be benefitting from most of the incentives. I feel that hybrid cars and plug-in hybrids should get little to no rebates. If they do then the qualifying battery sizes should be larger than what is currently in place for qualifying. I also feel that it's unfair to cut rebates from cars with higher MSRPs because there are going to be may entrants into the market in the coming years that could benefit from this given they are going to be pure BEVs. Cutting them off just because they are expensive does not send a good signal to buyers. Rebates are a catalyst to change behaviour to consider an EV.

Until there is a significant amount of AVAILABLE, AFFORDABLE BEVs on the market to chose from and the ratio has reached at least 25% of cars in Ontario driveways the government should continue to offer rebates to the populace. Ontario should also offer incentives to car makers who manufacture EVs in Ontario. This way we get better access to locally-made EVs and can also generate jobs. Lastly, Ontario should consider a ZEV mandate like Quebec has just unanimously accepted.

Thank-you
