I'm writing in strong opposition to Bill 98. If passed, the bill would repeal sections of Ontario's Municipal Act. The sections authorize more than 15 Ontario municipalities to use green development standards, such as high-efficiency heating and cooling and charging stations in new apartment buildings, to build resilient and energy-efficient buildings. Equivalent sections of the City of Toronto Act—and its Toronto Green Standard—would also be deemed illegal. As an Ottawa resident, I support the City's development of resilient building standards that respond to the realities of the climate emergency we're already facing in 2026. Please reconsider the adoption of the measures in Bill 98. Thank you for your consideration.
