This is an industry crushing decision. As a responsible Ontario boater, this would press me to sell our boat. Causing the value of all boats to tank, and the death of many businesses and many jobs that rely on Ontario boat ownership.
Forcing me to anchor 300 M from shore, massively reduces the number of possible SAFE anchorages available to boats. This puts me and my family's safety at risk.
This law doesn't make any sense because to only hurts the boaters with sleeping accommodations. It stinks of bias toward smaller boats.
Example:
So if I was invited to a friend's cottage and tied to their dock I would have no impact on the environment and could stay indefinitely (even if they had neighbors within 300m). Or if said friend ties their small boat to their own dock for 6-7 months of the year, then their boat/dock doesn't impact the environment?
Ontario waterways are some of the most beautiful in the world, and is why we chose to take up boating. If this is forcibly taken away, many people will find other places to spend their hard earned money, and it will likely not be in Ontario or possibly even Canada.
This is a law that doesn't address any issues. It just shotgun blasts everything in its path.
Signed,
The owner of a 35 foot ,Canadian made boat!
