I have been boating for over 30 years in Lindsay, the trent waterway, Georgian bay, lake Ontario and 1000 islands as well as the East Coast. I currently live on my boat on the water and do not agree with some of the suggested changes. Your proposal to reduce the number of days that a person can camp on water at one location in each calendar year from 21 days to 7 days is ridiculous! We live in Canada and half the year is winter. You should be encouraging people to be enjoying living outdoors, especially when half the year has to be spent inside! Canada is full of lakes and waterways and you should not be able to push your agenda on the enjoyment of others.
Our boat club has mooring balls in Toronto near the outer harbour. We cant keep our boats 300 meters from the dock. So many of these propositions are not considering people and places that might need access. You are going to need more exceptions. What constitutes reasonable moorings?
As well, there are many European countries that allow permanent structures on the water. We should look to them for solutions. Why not allow education (natural soaps/grey-water/environmental impacts and permits with requirements (natural products) if you feel you have to have some sort of regulation?
There are very few boaters for this environmental impact of pile anchors and pollution concerns. Especially in comparison to other countries. This feels like a single voice that is yelling loudly in a crowd and you are listening to their concerns. Not the voice and consensus of the crowd. Most boaters care about their surroundings and live off the grid. Their environmental footprint should be weighed against those living on the land and those trying to push this agenda!
Many people do not have the money to pay for overnight accommodations at marinas. Boating has been an inclusive activity for many! Do not take this away this wonderful experience by creating barriers for Canadians to enjoy their waterways.
This is a negative move and I am shocked and disappointed that I even have to submit this comment of disapproval.
