I am very much opposed to the proposed reduction to the minimum distance for bait for black bear hunting. Lire davantage

I totally object to the proposal of reducing bait distances from places people use, as this would put all kinds of people at risk of being shot. Lire davantage

I object. Move bear baiting sites farther away, the wilderness of Ontario is used by many people, not just hunters and I do not appreciate the garbage/junk left by bear baiters. The bears are not likely dangerous. Hiking and recreating near where bear hunting activity happens possibly is dangerous. Lire davantage

I OBJECT, the wilderness of Ontario is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. The bears are not dangerous, hiking, and recreating near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Ontario better not allow this change to take place.

Allowing this proposed 30 metre restriction 'baiting' for Black Bear is RIDICULOUS for several reasons. Firstly, 'hunting' the bear from a trail or roadway is not hunting. Going INTO the woods, forest, wilderness to shoot bear is hunting. Today's high powered rifles/ammo travels fast and deep. Lire davantage

I object! Give bears a fighting chance already. If the "hunter" is too lazy to walk a few extra metres than I feel the bears chance of survival shouldn't be impacted. Lire davantage

It is bad enough that this hunt takes place but at the very least it should be done with as little risk to humans and their pets as possible. This is not being taken into consideration and the only reason appears to be to make it easier for the “hunters” to have easier access. Lire davantage

The 30 m distance is super. Many of my baits are off old logging roads or trails that are impassable by atv or walking only. some of the bush I hunt in is so thick that going in the 200 m would be next to impossible to get to. Thanks for the change

I am very. distressed about the idea of reducing the setback distance for bear baiting from 200 to 30 metres off public paths and roadways. This is going to be a recipe for disaster for walkers and pets. Lire davantage

I have no idea why this change would even be needed! What is wrong with people bringing lethal weapons even closer to other people who enjoy the outdoors. What is the reasoning or is there any reasonable thought process when pushing such a change. Lire davantage

I'm a avid hiker and person who likes to lead others on trails in Ontario and I think this proposal puts hikers at unnecessary risk. Reducing the 200 m distance to 30 m has no benefit yet could create a lot more surprise encounters between bears and hikers and other trail users. Lire davantage

This is so sad, our wildlife needs more protection! I oppose this change and think more regulations need to be brought forward to protect our wildlife

This proposal fills me with dread, I have enjoyed holidaying in Ontario for many years and find the prospect of being so close to areas where baiting is being practiced horrifying. Lire davantage

You don't allow regular hunting from the roadside, so now you are saying that bear hunters can bait only 30 feet from the road! How many people have to be injured or killed by hunters using high powered rifles before you come to your senses? Lire davantage

I am completely opposed to shortening the existing distance requirement for bear baiting. Baiting is inherently wrong to begin with - and bringing it closer to hunters and others who frequent trails and forests will increase bear/human conflict creating problems that don’t need to happen! Like it isn't disgusting enough that some people walk in the wild and are inspired to kill animals. This proposal has nothing to do with conservation or healing the ecosystem that we've damaged probably beyond repair. It only helps the hunter too freaking lazy to walk into the bush. Lire davantage

Absolutely ridiculous. Luring bears closer to public areas is incredibly stupid. Not only would the bears coming closer to road ways and trails, but idiots with guns would also be closer. Just an all around stupid decision.
