I am a full-time resident of Wasaga Beach. I have been a piping plover volunteer for 13 years. I have participated in beach stewardship events such as removing phragmites, planting marram grass, picking up garbage on the beach.
I support the re-build of the current town owned property on Beach 1.
I also support the transfer of Nancy Island Historic Site to the Ministry of Tourism.
I am not happy with the lack of financial support that the MECP has provided to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park in the past several years so at first glance a change of management and ownership to the Town of Wasaga Beach appears to be a good idea. However, like our premier, our current council is very focused on development that generates income.
Our environment; the air we breathe, the water we drink, is under attack. Now more than ever we need our park to be managed by those who value the need to retain our parkland, dunes, and wetlands. That is what our provincial parks do ... please do not open the door to selling them off to the highest bidder!
