Public Comment on ERO #025-0694
Subject: Opposition to Proposed Boundary Changes to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park
I strongly oppose the proposed boundary changes to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park under Bill 5.
This plan would remove 645 acres of protected land — including critical wetlands, sand dunes, and forested habitat — with no meaningful public consultation or environmental transparency. This land is not “underused” or “excess.” It is ecologically essential and publicly owned.
Removing these lands contradicts the Premier’s own promise to protect Ontario’s natural heritage. After admitting the Greenbelt land swaps were a “mistake,” how can this government now fast-track similar development in a beloved provincial park?
This proposal raises serious concerns:
Endangered species habitat will be destroyed.
Public trust is being undermined — again.
No environmental impact assessment has been made available.
No meaningful consultation has taken place with residents, scientists, or Indigenous communities.
The people of Ontario have made it clear: our parks are not for sale.
I urge the government to withdraw this proposal, protect the full boundary of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, and commit to meaningful public engagement before making irreversible decisions that affect our shared future.
Respectfully submitted,
Councillor Lisa Robinson, City of Pickering
