I have spent the past 15 years travelling to Wasaga beach during all 4 seasons and have family who reside there. Wasaga beach , the longest freshwater beach in the world is truly a gem that attracts more and more visitors each year. It is home to an endangered species- the Piping Plover. The sand dunes provide protection from wind and water, so needed at this time of climate change, when high winds and water are creating terrible damage locally and worldwide. Wasaga beach needs stronger protection, not less. Wasaga beach and parklands are for all Ontarians. Eroding these protections to Wasaga and other provincial parks is misguided and destructive.
It is very disturbing to see the proposal by the provincial government to return parkland to the town of Wasaga, and to developers, who would pave over vulnerable parkland. Where are the assurances this will not happen? The province is stepping away from its' reponsibilities to protect the parkland for all, to keep the areas accessible for all, and to protect the environment.
