I do not support the reduction of Wasaga Beach by removing the Proposed Areas for Removal from the Regulated Park Area. I have fond memories of going to the provincial park as a child, as do my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. For generations we have enjoyed the untouched natural beauty of the beach, and it would be a shame to see that developed at the expense of one of Ontario's natural treasures.
The area is also crucial for numerous species, most notably the Piping Plover. These birds are extremely reliant on shoreline habitat, rarely venturing outside these areas. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service listed the Great Lakes population as endangered decades ago, and, per canada.ca, “is listed as Endangered in Canada under Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act.” Such a drastic downsizing of their habitat would put their population in further peril.
I urge you to reconsider this plan. The natural beauty of Wasaga Beach is precisely what draws in so many tourists every year, not urban development. Please don't take away the pristine place my family has known for centuries. The public and environment will thank you.
